Jacked Up

I keep hearing about what a super meat substitute for meat-lovers jackfruit is. Naturally, we can't get jackfruit back here in the Midwestern sticks, so I could only fantasize about how awesome it was.

Then one of our daughters gave us a gift certificate to a store that carries it, so we hitched up the buckboard and moseyed into town and bought this, among other things:

So I made this:

I added mixed sweet peppers, onions, and water chestnuts.

What did it taste like?

I'll tell you what it tasted like. It tasted like marinated artichokes. Not like meat, not in texture or flavor or in any other way, shape, or form. Mind you, I like artichokes, including marinated artichokes, but not if I'm expecting meat, and not in teriyaki sauce. Just no.

So there's a fantasy gone.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm posting at my own blog today about a vegan salad/casserole I made for Thanksgiving.
