A Bit of Fish #Pescatarian

We had our last visit to the farmers market for the season. Alas! We got some green beans, green onions, and a sweet potato.

No, we don't eat much. Yes, we split the sweet potato and split a piece of Tilapia, which I cook in vegan margarine, sprinkled with Lawry's seasoned salt and Penzys lemon pepper.

Farewell, farmers market! See you next spring!

I'm posting at my own blog today about stir frys (stir fries?).

Antipasto Salad #Vegetarian

Although antipasti platters and salads usually have meat on/in them, that isn't necessary. So this one doesn't. It does have dairy cheese, though, so it isn't vegan.

That's yellow/orange tomatoes (lower in acid than red ones) and cucumber from the farmers market, sliced pimiento-stuffed olives, and sliced mozzarella sticks (string cheese) because I didn't have any classy mozzarella. I dressed it with Italian dressing, natch. It was, to quote one of the Sanderson sisters, "Vewy wefweshing."

I'm posting at my own blog today about a belicious tuna wrap.

Glazed Carrots #vegan #vegetarian

I'm still trying to find a good glazed carrot recipe that doesn't involve a thickening ingredient like arrowroot or cornstarch. Is there such a thing?

I mean, this was good:

I heated vegan margarine, brown sugar, and orange peel and added the carrots (canned, alas). The flavor was excellent, but the "glaze" was a watery sauce.

What am I missing?

Food in Fiction #YouBeneathYourSkin

In YOU BENEATH YOUR SKIN, author Damyanti Biswas uses food and its accouterments to set a scene, to illuminate characters and relationships, and for dramatic tension. She's brilliant with it, as she is with everything she writes.
Visit my blog today for a full post on the topic from the author herself!

I've bought the book twice: when it came out on Kindle and when it came out in paper. You can buy it, too:

Breakfast of Champions

Talk about Fatal Food. And, no, I don't wonder why I'm overweight; not on days like this.

Sausage (could be vegan substitute, could be turkey, but this is not), over-easy egg, fried bread. Includes what Terry Pratchett's cop, Sam Vimes, called (loving them) BCB--black crunchy bits.

I'm posting at my own blog today about chicken and dumplings, which is marginally healthier.
