Lucky New Year's Meal the Kentuckiana Way

Around here, you start the new year with cabbage, black-eyed peas, and pork. So we did.

We boiled the cabbage in salted water until it was crisp-tender (the cabbage, not the water) and drained it well (still talking about the cabbage). I bought a small packet of country ham, chopped the ham, and cooked it slowly in a pot until the small amount of fat was rendered out. Then I added a can of partially drained black-eyed peas and some onion powder (I would have preferred to cook real onions with the ham, but Charlie doesn't always tolerate onions). 

Pretty good meal, if it isn't New Year's Day.
